LANSING — Psst: Ask for ice skates at the library.

Lansing’s downtown ice rink, located in Reutter Park, has been open this winter with ice skates available free for check out across the street at the Capital Area District Library’s downtown location. Or bring your own.

The rink is not heavily used, and there are no signs at the rink encouraging people to check out the library’s skates. But the point is skating in downtown Lansing is still possible.

Scott Bean, a spokesperson for the mayor’s office, said he’s seen people using the rink this year.

Bean said the rink will come down when winter ends, sometime in March. It typically opens at the park in November.

The 3,300-square foot rink, with a won’t-melt hard plastic surface instead of ice, was first installed outside of City Hall, in February 2021. It was moved to Reutter Park by the 2022 season.
