Small Business Week

For more than 60 years, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has celebrated National Small Business Week (NSBW), which acknowledges the critical contributions of America’s entrepreneurs and small business owners. 

National Small Business Week 2026 will take place May 3-9, and SBA will officially recognize their hard work, ingenuity, dedication, and their contributions to the economy. 

Here in Michigan, Downtown Lansing Inc. is highlighting the homegrown shops that positively impact our region. Studies consistently show that when you spend money at a locally owned business, a significantly larger share of those dollars — often around 60–70% — stays in the local economy, compared to a much smaller portion when you shop at national chains. That means more support for local jobs, local suppliers, and the services that keep our community thriving.
