CALL STUDENT ARTISTS NOW OPEN
The Lansing Art Gallery & Education Center has two calls open for which student artists may apply, the 37th Annual Art Scholarship Alert and the 12th Ingham Student Art Exhibit. Students accepted to either exhibition will have their artwork showcased in a professional setting, as well as in an online virtual exhibition. Scholarships are also available.
INGHAM STUDENT ART EXHIBIT
The Ingham Student Art Exhibit is a celebration of excellence in the visual arts and is hosted by Lansing Art Gallery & Education Center, Ingham Intermediate School District, and the Michigan Education Leadership Group. This competition is open to all K- 12 and students 18+ who participate in Young Adult SE Programs within the Ingham Intermediate School District service area.
From eligible entries, a qualified juror will select up to 50 works to be professionally framed. Framed artwork will be exhibited for one year in a professional partner facility as well as in a Virtual Art Exhibition. The partner facilitates include the lobbies of the Ingham Intermediate School District in Mason, the Michigan Education Leadership Group on the westside of Lansing, and Lansing Art Gallery & Education Center’s Student Gallery in Downtown Lansing. The jury process will take place between March 1 – 6, 2022.
ART SCHOLARSHIP ALERT
Art Scholarship Alert is a juried art exhibition and scholarship competition for High school students, 9-12, and students 18+ who participate in the Young Adult SE Program. Art Scholarship Alert offers entry to students in over 50 school districts in 9 counties: Ingham, Clinton, Eaton, Ionia, Shiawassee, Barry, Livingston, Calhoun and Jackson. The program is designed to give recognition and financial assistance for outstanding art students, to encourage artistic growth and to provide students with an opportunity to participate as artists in a professional setting. Students are required to submit a portfolio of works of art to be juried by a team of professional artists and educators.
Since 1984, Art Scholarship Alert has awarded over $121,850 to young artists to help further their creative endeavors. In addition, seniors who apply for Art Scholarship Alert may also apply for the annual $1,000 Sara Jane Venable Scholarship.
MONETARY SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
Student artists at the senior level, applying for Art Scholarship Alert, are eligible to apply for the following monetary scholarships:
Sara Jane Venable Scholarship, in recognition of Sara Jane Venable’s tremendous contribution to art education in the Greater Lansing Area and to her leadership in statewide art organizations. The purpose of this scholarship is to support a deserving student artist in their pursuit of higher education in the visual arts. A stipend of $1,000 will be given to an accredited institution of the recipient’s choice for tuition assistance.
