LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - The annual celebration of all things Mid-Michigan has returned for another year.

It’s 517 weekend in downtown Lansing, and events are kicking off with a community gathering at the Lansing Shuffle Friday. From 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., the Shuffle will serve food, drinks, and tunes to visitors and host a vendor market on the riverfront.

Local businesses are bringing homemade goods for sale, from handmade clothing to snacks and home goods. 517 Day founder Metro Melik Brown is emceeing the event, which he said has only grown larger with each passing year.

517 Day is a coming together of the best of what Greater Lansing has to offer, but Brown said nothing says you’re in the 517 like the local art that’s on display.

“When I think of the 517, I think of the wonderful people that are, but most importantly, the underlying, unsung heroes here, the art,” he said. “The arts community is huge. It’s Mi Art City. Michigan Art City. MI Art City. Hashtag it.”

517 festivities will continue Saturday with the Best of Lansing event, which transforms the State Capitol lawn into a playground and obstacle course for people of all ages. People can attend for free from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
