Downtown Lansing Inc is proud to work alongside local artists, historians, and community partners to bring the stories of some of Lansing’s most influential women to life through public art and our Legendary Women of Lansing project.
With partners like the Women’s Center of Greater Lansing, the Arts Council of Greater Lansing and the Historical Society of Greater Lansing, we’re creating a series of artist-designed installations that turn everyday spaces into meaningful storytelling moments.
With your support via our Patronicity fundraising campaign, we can bring these stories to life across Downtown Lansing—creating a more vibrant, inclusive, and inspiring experience that celebrates our past, connects our present, and inspires future generations. And should we raise enough funds, the 2nd phase of this project includes bringing a large sculpture to Michigan Ave. – leading up to the Capitol building!
Funding from this campaign will:
- Commission local women artists to design custom artwork on eight traffic signal control boxes in Downtown Lansing and one large-scale sculpture that will serve as a permanent and highly visible tribute to women as mentors, innovators, public servants, and changemakers
- Fabricate and install durable, high-quality vinyl wraps designed to withstand weather and daily wear
- Incorporate interpretive elements (such as plaques or QR codes) to deepen engagement and storytelling
- Support artist stipends and ensure equitable compensation for creative work
- Provide ongoing maintenance to preserve the integrity and longevity of the installations
