Make Downtown Part of Your Homecoming Weekend

Michigan State University Homecoming

Homecoming weekend at Michigan State University is just around the corner (October 9-10) and is one of the best times to be a Spartan. It’s the perfect opportunity to celebrate with alumni, students, family and friends you may not get to see very often. While most of the action may start in East Lansing, Downtown Lansing is only a short trip away and has plenty of ways to keep the celebration going. And keep an eye out for Downtown Lansing’s Big Red Ball Ambassadors, MSU President Kevin Gusckiewicz and Amy Gusckiewicz.

After Friday’s Homecoming festivities, make your way downtown to eat, grab drinks and hang out! Before, during or after the game, there is always something to do. To get into the fall spirit, stop by Strange Matter Downtown for coffee and doughnuts to fuel up for the day. For dinner, check out Midtown Brewing Co., which offers a diverse menu and specialty craft cocktails that are perfect for after the game. If you’re looking for a place to watch the game or satisfy a late-night craving, Sidecar Slider Bar is open until 2 a.m. And if you’re trying to find something for everyone, Lansing Shuffle is a great option, with a variety of food choices, drinks, and even shuffleboard.

After a busy weekend, slow things down on Sunday with breakfast from Bangos or brunch at Batter Up Bistro for a more relaxing end to your Homecoming weekend. While you’re in the area, take a stroll down Washington Square to check out the giant pumpkins, snap a few photos with friends and family, and stop into some of the local shops along the way. Whether you are visiting for the weekend or call Lansing home, Homecoming is the perfect excuse to explore a little beyond campus and make Downtown Lansing part of your experience.
