LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - A multi-million dollar plan to turn Lansing City Hall into a hotel with a restaurant. Developers presented their vision to the Lansing City Council Monday evening. The project isn’t set to start for another two years, but developers say the work really starts now, and they are excited about the future of the 10-story building overlooking the Capitol.

The push for a new City Hall has been in the talks for more than a decade and, with a new plan for a new City Hall brings open real estate. J. Paul Beitler with Beitler Real Estate Services wants to buy the current city hall building and turn it into a hotel.

“The physical dimensions of this building favor a hotel because you have a very narrow corridor and it really today doesn’t work as an office building. So, a hotel was a good idea and a natural opportunity for this design of building,” said Beitler, the President of Beitler Real Estate.

Beitler’s plan to build a hotel isn’t necessarily a new one. It dates back to 2017 when Beitler and three other developers bid their proposals. The former Mayor picked Beitler’s proposal, but the plan ultimately fell through.
