Thirty years ago, Mike Siracuse, the retiring manager of Riverwalk Theatre, found himself at a crossroad.

He was unhappy in his job as a general manager in hotels across the Midwest. After 17 years of standing behind the front desk listening to people complain, he’d had enough.

“I spent all my time apologizing for things that weren’t really my fault, but I was the only person they could talk to,” he said. “Sometimes people are so nasty.”

So, Siracuse quit. Just like that.

He filled his time with teaching hospitality courses at Lansing Community College and volunteering as an usher at the Lansing Civic Players, but he was still looking for a full-time job he’d enjoy.
