On May 11th, the Lansing Board of Water & Light (BWL) will be celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Adopt a River program, an initiative started in 1994. The program was launched to restore pride in our area’s remarkable natural resources, specifically the Grand and Red Cedar Rivers. The BWL continues to support the Adopt a River event held each spring. The initiative invites schools, businesses, civic groups, and unions to adopt sections of these rivers, pledging to keep their banks and surrounding areas clean and litter-free. It’s a call for all of us to help keep our local rivers and adjacent spaces beautiful.

This year’s Adopt a River Program will be held on Saturday, May 11 from 8:30 a.m.-11:00 a.m. at Impression 5 Science Center, located at 200 Museum Drive, The event will include a river cleanup and this year, the program is once again partnering with DLI for a full Downtown Lansing clean-up event. Participants are encouraged to bring gloves and any work tools you may want. After the clean-up, all volunteers are invited to enjoy a complimentary picnic lunch by the Grand River outside Impression 5.

Sign up to volunteer at:  https://signup.com/go/cSDMEEV or contact Erik Larson at the Impression 5 Science Center at 517-485-8116 ext. 143. Together we can make a significant difference in preserving our rivers and the environment.
