Downtown Lansing's Nelson Gallery celebrates five years of promoting local artists

Downtown Lansing’s Nelson Gallery is celebrating its fifth anniversary this week.

The art gallery on Washington Square has hosted fifteen exhibitions and work from dozens of local artists since 2021. A reception celebrating the milestone is taking place Friday, March 20 from 5:30-7:00 p.m.

Cajun seafood boil restaurant in Lansing: When Sea LaVeaux will open

LANSING — A counter-service Cajun boil restaurant is poised to open in a 3,000-square-foot storefront on South Washington Square where Grand Traverse Pie Company closed more than 2½ years ago.

Sea LeVeaux could open downtown at 200 S. Washington Square by April, owner Antwan Johnson said, “and if it takes a little longer, we’re fine with that.”

Lansing Public Media Center founding director Dom Cochran likes to call a new membership to the center “the best deal in town.” That is to say, after the introductory all-day class (with a free lunch) and 2TB data card given to members, the center has already lost money.

“We charge the $50 so you feel some ownership, and like you have some skin in the game, right?” Cochran said. “But it’s actually heavily subsidized. We don’t make money off it, obviously. We lose money.”
